Windows XP 64 is here and I would imagine a few of you are wondering whether to upgrade? Well the motivation to do it just got a whole lot stronger with today’s release of the 64bit edition of Far Cry.
The free upgrade for existing owners supports both single and multiplayer modes and promises higher frame rates, enhanced textures, longer view distances and more objects with real time physics.
In addition to the improvements made to the existing content, the 64bit version also includes additional multiplayer maps and expanded levels in the single player game. For instance, the barrel storage area (above) is not part of the original Far Cry. Hint: It can be found on the Pier Level by travelling southeast from the Mercenary Camp past the two abandoned tanks, then turn due south down the pathway and keep walking.
If you have already made the switch to Windows 64 then you’ll find the new and improved version of Far Cry here. Whether the game can have the same impact for Windows 64 that a title like Halo had for the Xbox remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure: it’s not going to do the new OS any harm…
Incidentally, if you are wondering what all the AMD64 logos are doing in the corners, it is because developer Crytek and publisher UbiSoft worked on the game in conjunction with AMD. Ok, enough babbling, I know what you want: More Screenies! Let's finish with this delicious shot of one of the new multiplayer maps :)
