7Bot is a £200 robot arm that sees, thinks and learns

Ever fancied having your very own robotic arm? Now you can without breaking the bank.

The aim of uArm is to produce affordable, highly advanced robotics for enthusiasts and researchers. That way, the usually prohibitive high cost won’t get in the way of widespread adoption.

7Bot is its first affordable robot arm. It comes with six degrees of freedom, and is powered by high-torque metal digital servos with force-control supported. In English, that means it can move through lots of different angles, and performance-wise it’s close to industry-standard robot arms.

But that’s not all. It has artificial intelligence too, so you can program it and it can learn as it goes. Want someone to play chess against? 7Bot is up to the task. It can even paint and help you do your homework.

It comes with a standard Vacuum Cup Gripper for picking up and moving objects, and you can opt for the Two-Finger Gripper to give it more nimble uses.

There’s no word on whether it can perform a two-fingered salute, but we’d imagine it’s possible.

You can print your own end-effectors, so theoretically you could give it a full five fingers. Buy two 7Bots, and you can make your own dual-armed robot.

The only limit is your budget and programming knowledge.

It looks like great fun, and has already shot past its $50,000 funding goal. It will ship in January.
