Still looking for that mammoth, overkill MTV Cribs style flat screen to really bling up your pad? Panasonic has just made a rather strong play for your affections.
The new Viera (not we’re not talking Jermaine Jenas, Lassana Diarra or Mathieu Flamini) flagship flat panal range has added the TH65PV500 to its ranks. This is a 65in monster with a 1366 x 768 resolution and nicely over-the-top 3000:1 contrast ratio. The party piece, however, is really something quite unexpected for the TH65P... (blah, blah) can not only swallow SD Cards but record to them in real time.
The wisely chosen compression format is Mpeg4 which means you should be able to fit an entire movie onto a 1GB card with space to spare and with the exponential size increases in flash memory it won’t be long before you’re carting a full season of the superlative House in your pocket. Superb news for the intrepid road warrior. On top of the SD Card slot, the TH6… (blah) comes equipped with a PCMCIA slot too. This is only good for viewing still images, but given that you can buy x-In-1 flash memory card readers that plug into PCMCIA slots just about any format will be available to you.
As you'd expect from a set of this magnitude there is support for 720p and 1080i high definition broadcasts, so for those of you who demand top quality (though if Riyad’s ‘Quality Control’ editorial is anything to judge by that isn't nearly enough) the TH… (blah) should make an intriguing purchase. Panasonic has begun taking pre-orders now and aims to ship sets in time for Chrimbo (you’ll need a flippin’ great stocking).
The price? 10,000 euros. What?! We’re talking ‘mammoth, overkill MTV Cribs bling’ here…
