3GSM First Day Madness Continues

No doubt a firm believer in quantity drawing a crowd, Panasonic has no less than nine new phones at 3GSM of which we will start with the new VS7 and VS3. The clamshell phones both have stunning 24 bit colour (16 million colours), 2.5in and 2.2in screens with two megapixel and 1.3 megapixel cameras respectively. Covers to the phones are swappable and there is a push button to open the phone automatically.

Very similar to the VS Series is the MX series, with the MX7 and MX6 having identical features to the VS7 and VS3 except for the surprising claim that the MXs will have double the battery life. It makes me wonder what the value in releasing the VS series is, but when pricing is announced that may be cleared up.

Further bulking out the mass of Panasonic phones today are the SA7 and SA6 aimed at sports enthusiasts and again are basically VS7 and VS3 clones with brightly coloured skins.

For budget orientated buyers the SC3 and A210 have 65k screens and VGA cameras. Both are lightweight with the A210 a feather-like 68g.

Last out the hat is the Panasonic X800 (see below) which is a Series 60 powered Symbian device. It features a miniSD card slot, Bluetooth and VGA camera with video recording. The screen is a 65k and 176 x 208 pixels with a second external screen

Continuing the role call of a mobile phone makers’ who’s who is Sendo with its X2. The original X is still very new (you can expect a review on the site soon) but the Tri-band X2 looks to have taken things a step further already. Billed as a music phone, it has stereo sound with MP3, ACC, ACC+ format support and takes miniSD memory up to 1GB. Away from all things audio, there is Bluetooth and USB connectivity, a 1.3 megapixel camera and a large 2.2in 65k display. Hardly moving the scales at 95g, it is highly portable too.

Intriguingly, former Sendo partner Microsoft is headed back to the mobile handset market after teaming up with Flextronics. There will be full coverage of that device and a round up and other gems 3GSM turns up when we resume coverage tomorrow.
