Google has officially announced a 32GB Nexus 7 tablet, pricing the device at £199. It is reportedly already on sale in some UK shops.

Google was due to launch the tablet at a New York event, but the arrival of Hurricane Sandy today put paid to that. Instead journalists were informed via a simple email press release that also gave details of the new Google Nexus 10 tablet and LG-made Google Nexus 4 smartphone.

The 32GB Google Nexus 7 price is particularly interesting because it undercuts that of the 32GB iPad mini by a long way. The iPad mini is £269 – a pricing gulf that could easily persuade undecided shoppers to go with Google’s tablet.

Google also revealed that it is bringing mobile data to its tablets for the first time. There will be a 32GB Nexus 7 with HSPA available in November in the UK, with prices yet to be confirmed.

As the 32GB Nexus 7 arrives, the 8GB model is being discontinued. Expect to see the price of the 16GB Nexus 7, now the basic model, dropping to fill the entry-level gap.

Do you think Google can give Apple a bloody nose by undercutting the iPad mini so severely. Is a 32GB Nexus 7 something you’d be interested in buying? Drop us a line in the comments box below.
