In the battle to offer attractive mobile contracts, Tesco Mobile is looking to undercut rivals with a £6 a month SIM-only deal.
Bundled into that rolling-contract package are 250 minutes, 5,000 texts and 500MB of data usage, which Tesco is touting as the best value mobile contract deal around.
Of course, value is subjective; 500MB of data might not be enough for heavy users of music streaming services and serial Instagramers, while 5,000 texts may seem pointless in a world where WhatsApp is prolific.
In comparison, Three offers 4GB and unlimited minutes for £9 a month, and GiffGaff offers 500 minutes, unlimited texts, and 4GB of 4G data for £10 a month.
While TPO (the people’s operator) which piggybacks on Three’s network offers 750 minutes, unlimited texts and 1.5GB of data for £5 a month on a 30-day rolling contract, though that comes with the caveat that TPO’s customer service hasn’t had a stellar reception.
Other than cheap monthly charges, Tesco Mobile also offers its SIM-only customers Family Perks, which include little benefits such as money off bills, and Clubcard points for anyone who has more than one account on a single mobile bill. The idea of the perks is to create a SIM-only deal that appeals to families trying to sort out mobile contracts for their children on the cusp of returning back to school after the summer holidays.
Tesco Mobile and other SIM-only deals offer attractive packages for not a lot of money, there are also decent deals available from the major network operators for people who want a top Android or iOS smartphone as part of a new contract.
While Sky Mobile looks to win attention by offering free data roaming in 36 destinations across the globe.
