Motorola and the UK’s mobile network 3, have announced the availability of three new handsets, available in time for the Christmas season.

The three handsets are the Motorola A1000, the E1000 and the C975, and are available from November 2004. Motorola's Razer V3 has attracted a lot of interest recently and no doubt the company is hoping this will continue with its 3G phones. We've also just looked at one of its Bluetooth headsets, garnering a full 10 out of 10 here.

3 meanwhile, is hoping that the new phones will attract more customers to its mix of video calling, music videos, and football highlights. The company claims that it has over 1.2 million subscribers in the UK, and 3 million worldwide.

Motorola is promising that the new handsets offer lighter designs and improved battery life over previous models.

The A1000 is a PDA like device that sports a large touch screen and runs on SymbianOS. It offers both Bluetooth and USB connectivity, has 24MB of memory and features a Picsel Document Viewer that can support Adobe PDF, Microsoft Work, Excel and PowerPoint. The integrated camera sports 1.2 Megapixels and can capture MPEG4 video.

The phone even features location based services thanks to its embedded A-GPS chip. This works by embedding a GPS receiver in the phone, but relies on remote servers on the network to calculate the user's location instead of relying on the phone's processing ability. This feature will help you find the nearest cash point to pay for the cab after your Christmas party.

The E1000 is a more conventional looking phone but also offers a QVGA 16-bit TFT screen, video messaging, MP3 playback, a 1.2 Mega pixel camera. If also offers Bluetooth and USB connectivity and an AGPS receiver.

The C975 is more of a mass market phone. It’s compact and pocketable yet has room for a 1.9inch colour display for watching streaming videos and two way video calling. It has a VGA camera and users can use it to listen to their favourite MP3 tunes. It also has email support and a built-in speakerphone.
