This seems a logical, if surprising, extension...
Following its decision to offer customers free unconditional Skype calls on all its tariffs the company has now taken the next step with 'Sim Zero'. Taking the concept of free to a rather impressive extreme, you'll get a free sim plus no monthly charge for:
- Free Skype-to-Skype calls
- Free Windows Live Messenger use
- Free voicemail in the UK
- 20p per minute for all standard calls
- 10p per text
- 30p per MB of data
- One month minimum term then one month's notice to cancel
"We want to challenge the market and change mobile forever, that's why we are offering a UK first - a contract that costs nothing but gives you free calls forever with Skype," said 3 head of Pay Monthly Andy Nuttall. "Customers can come to us, and when they're at home in the UK they'll never have to pay for a call or instant message to anyone else on Skype anywhere in the world."
In fairness it's a hard tariff to argue against - unless you're dead set against 3 - and arming it with either the Skypephone S2 or INQ1 (£69.99 apiece) would seem a smart recession-friendly move.
Any other networks want to embrace Skype? Nah, didn't think so...
