The first 2013 MacBook Air 13 teardown has showcased the new updated components in all their glory, including the beefier battery.
Officially unveiled during Apple’s WWDC 2013 keynote speech, the 2013 MacBook Air will launch with the latest Intel i5 and i7 Intel CPUs and an improved battery for enhanced battery life.
iFixit’s teardown of the 13-inch 2013 MacBook Air pays close attention to the new 7,150mAh, 7.6V battery. Upgrading the current 6,700mAh, 7.3V power pack, the 2013 MacBook Air 13 claims to offer users 12 hours of battery life per charge.
The more power-efficient 4th generation Haswell Intel Core processors should make a noticible difference to battery life too.
Apple has included flash storage that is said to be 45 per cent faster than the current generation, and to do so has changed from SATA to PCIe courtesy of Samsung technology. The 13-inch model has 4GB or RAM and 256GB of internal storage all in the form of Samsung components. iFixit notes that the Samsung SSD PCIe-based harddrive is smaller than the previous Toshiba module.
Also, the AirPort card has been changed and now supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac frequencies.
The stereo speakers appear to have remained the same, but Apple has introduced a second microphone to cut out background noise on video calls and other audio input applications.
For users, the 2013 MacBook Air components that matter are the improved battery and new Haswell processors, but the other tweaks are all important to the overall performance of the Apple notebook.
“MacBook Air the industry leader for thin and light notebooks, and now with longer battery life, we’ve set the bar even higher,” said Apple’s Vice President, Phil Schiller in a post-keynote statement. “With faster flash, more powerful graphics and up to 12 hours of battery life, the new MacBook Air packs even more performance into the portable and durable design our customers love.”
