20.1in Laptops On Way

We all knew they were coming, it’s like bigger hard drives and smaller mobile phones, so we shouldn’t really bat an eye at a 20.1in laptop screen, but we do… cos they’re cool!

Marketed by LG.Philips but so far without any known takers (bet that doesn’t last long) is the world’s largest laptop panel. Its 20.1 inches easily beat the 19in LCD only just seen yesterday in the rocking SLI enabled AJP M590K, even if its resolution is the same at 1680 x 1050 (WSXGA+).

Again calls for a higher resolution would be well merited here (a 1920 x 1200 WUXGA would really have tickled my toes) but this is the first 20.1in panel, not the pinnacle of it. It does support S-RGB as the poster makes abundantly clear and we expect the likes of Alienware, Dell, AJP, rockdirect, Voodoo and all those other notebook manufacturers we affectionately group together under the collective title of ‘Nutters’ will snaffle it up quick sharp.

No word on just how hefty a notebook would be if it were built around this size screen, but I like to think it would actually be thinner than some 15.4in and 17in models. After all, there is a larger footprint to squash in all those components.

It's easy you see, just like building Lego or wiring a plug. Let me into your hi-tech laboratories guys. Give me a mobo, a hammer and some super glue and I'll show you how it's done.
