Rumours of a 15in MacBook Air have circulated for months, but an accessory-maker has once again revived our interest in the fabled skinny laptop. During the accessory show CU Exposed, a manufacturer suggested the new Air model will arrive in April.

Talking to ElectricPig, the un-named accessory-maker suggested the 15in MacBook Air will arrive in April, have ports on both its sides and feature no Ethernet port and no optical drive. As such, it'll largely be an upscaled version of the current 13in MacBook Air in basic design terms. Suggesting such a device a few years ago - a large-screen laptop missing basics like this - would have seemed like madness. But now that Ultrabooks have shown that light weight, good battery life and great design are top concerns for many, it makes perfect sense.

The release of a 15in MacBook Air will see the series encroach significantly onto the turf of the MacBook Pro, generally seen as Apple's premier laptop range. However, if the 15in model carries on using the SSD storage of the 13in and 11in MacBook Airs, you can bet it won't be cheap.

The current 13in model starts off at £1099, which gets you a 1.7GHz i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, 128GB SSD storage and weedy Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics. The 13in MacBook Pro with more storage - not SSD, naturally - and a faster processor is a hundred pounds less. To get a top-spec 15in Air, you'll need deep pockets.

As usual, Apple has not released any information on the long-rumoured laptop. Its policy is to not comment on rumour or speculation, preferring to keep as tight a grip on announcements as possible ahead of official launches.
