10th Anniversary Google I/O conference starts on May 18

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has confirmed the annual Google I/O conference, one of the most significant events in the tech calendar, will kick off on May 18 2016.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, Pichai said the 10th anniversary show will return to Google’s home town of Mountain View, California.

The developer-focused event, which will last for three days, will likely be headlined by the first preview of the Android N operating system, likely to be released this autumn, as well as updates to Android Wear.

The firm often uses the event to showcase new developments with core apps like Google Now, Photos, Maps, Chrome, YouTube as well as the web-based Chrome OS.

It’s also possible we’ll see some new developments in the Chromecast and Cardboard fields, while it’s also possible there’ll be updates on when Android Pay is set to expand beyond the United States,

This will be the first Google I/O event since the company was reorganised beneath the Alphabet umbrella company, so it’ll be interesting to see if the approach changes somewhat.

Will we be seeing products that only fall under the new streamlined Google banners or might we hear updates from Alphabet companies like the new self-driving cars division.

Only four months until we find out! Mark your calendars, folks.
