20Mbit? I have a 100mbit fibre connection, for 45€/month (I live in Portugal).
How come you guys are still stuck with "ultra fast" 20mbit DSL Internet??

Orange Broadband. DO NOT F*CKING GO THERE.
Technology changes, and so should you. said on 22nd October 2009
Come on guys at TR:
After your scathing comments based on the watchdog report on boradband speeds, you mention nothing of what the DOUBLE asterisk after the 20Mb means.
You're supposed to be informing us, not whipping up hype.

Not exactly the first though are they? I think Sky and BT have already gone 20Mb, with smaller ISPs like Be getting there first...

** Offer only available to Orange customers in Orange network areas Home Max is £6.50 a month after 3 months plus line rental.
In other words you have to be one of the lucky ones at one of the 944 Orange LLU Enabled exchanges (out of the UK's 5,500 total). So much for your "20Mbit Broadband to All" headline.
The likeliest result is more choice of 20Mb services for those who can already get one and still no access to 20Mb for the rest of us.

I did a line test & can, I am told, get up to 4mb.
I did a speed check & am getting about 1.5mb.
I guess I could improve my speed a bit, but then I watched the Gadget show & see that in Korea broadband is so fast no-one even bothers about the speed. They download complete films in minutes.
We live in the good'ole UK......what do we expect........something modern!

For my sins, I'm an existing Orange broadband user (it came 'free' with my girlfriend's mobile account). Although we live very near the financial centre of the Universe (Canary Wharf) our line speed currently only averages 3-4mb/s so I was thrilled (well almost) to read your piece. I immediately went to the Orange website and - guess what? - it won't let an existing user check to see if 'superfast broadband' is available! Good old Orange, will they ever change....?

"the fastest speed your line can handle" ... where I live, this would be akin to giving me a Ferrari 430 when all I have are potholed farm roads to drive on!
