3 Offers 15GB Mobile Broadband Allowance For £15

The argument that speed hinders mobile broadband replacing fixed line will largely be eradicated with the arrival of 4G (also known as LTE or 'Long Term Evolution') but what about monthly data allowance? Well, 3 has just given us a tantalising glimpse of what's to come...
The progressive (yes, that's the phrase I always use while it continues to be true) network has this week announced a new mobile broadband tariff offering a meaty 15GB per month allowance. Perhaps the best bit however is the price: £15pm.

As 3 is keen to point out such capacity allows you to send 15,000 Outlook/HTML emails, surf the web for 150 hours, download 75 four minute videos and 480 four minute music tracks but this is all pretty meaningless as it doesn't take into account attachments or bitrates. Still, it makes a point.
The inevitable snag - depending on your contractaphobia - is the length of the deal required: two full years. Should you choose the shorter 18 month deal then it'll cost you £30pm, twice as much, while the option isn't available at all on 12 month plans. That said, all five of three's rather swanky dongles will be free.
Yesterday BT told us it can provide 40Mbit DSL connections in 2010. I wonder what the mobile broadband sector might have cooked up by then...
