Sky Bids £450m For Tiscali

The search for a Tiscali buyer could at long last been gathering momentum this week with news that Murdock-ian giant Sky is closing in fast...
According to the Sunday Times the broadcaster is now in exclusive talks having lodged an indicative bid of approximately £450m - ironically £100m less than Tiscali turned down in March from Carphone Warehouse, when it was still (rather foolishly) holding out for £1.13bn. Oh well, snooze you lose...

Perhaps more interesting however is what such a purchase would do to the UK broadband landscape. Virgin Media is currently the leader with 3.8m customers but adding Tiscali's 1.84m subscribers would put Sky within touching distance of that total, especially considering its broadband packages are proving a hit with Sky TV customers with over 20 per cent unifying the two services.
Not bad for a company which has only been in the broadband game a little over two years...
Of course, what use Sky would make of Tiscali's streaming web based TV services are also another major talking point in all this since on-demand content has long been a noticeable absence from its satellite service and one which no number of programme multi-starts or its swipe-your-storage 'AnyTime TV' feature can mask.
Looks a smart move for Sky and a case of opportunity missed from Tiscali...

Looks like you're running out of ISPs to choose from, as Sky are going to be chewing up both Tiscali and Pipex.

If Sky get it I wonder if we will have to put a pin code in, to prove we are over eighteen every time we go online to read Trusted Reviews, even after the 9pm watershed.
