In recent times progressive UK network 3 hasn't often had to follow in the footsteps of its rivals - but when the idea is a good one - it has done the right thing and shown some humility...

Consequently just a few weeks after T-Mobile made a similar announcement, 3 is launching the 'D100 Wireless Router' a teeny, tiny mobile broadband wireless router which lets users plug in their dongle (I do hate that word) and share the connection around their home or office. Given I saw this device a few months back but promised to remain tight lipped (not an easy thing for me) this narrow second place must rankle a little.

That said, the 3 solution is arguably more attractive and eminently more portable than the lamp stand-influenced T-Mobile effort and with an RRP of just £69.99 (less than you'd pay for a dongle 12 months ago) it's as easy on the pocket as it is on the eye.

Furthermore, in this credit crunch / economic crisis / we-all-know-it's-really-a-recession, such a move means you can rid yourself of your landline and wave two fingers in the direction of BT - much as you've always wanted to.

Launching immediately, the 3 D100 Wireless Router is available on its own or with bundles starting from just £15pm for a 5GB data allowance. Heavy P2P users downloaders need not apply but for everyone else, tempting no?

Hmm, Vodafone's solution is looking pretty dated now. Still, the Vodafone/Linksys WRT54G3G is a fantastic bit of kit, I love mine and have had it for, ooh, a year or two now?<... more
