This has always been the master plan...

Ever since O2 bought Be in 2006 the network has been looking for that killer hook - not as many assumed to cash in on the home broadband market (what cash?) but to create an irresistible combo deal like this:

'Broadband Home and Away' is a new package which gives customers who sign up for its £20 per month mobile broadband service a free O2 'Standard' 8Mbit home broadband connection for a full year.

Details are thus: The mobile service comes with a free USB modem, 3GB monthly download allowance, unlimited access nationwide to The Cloud's WiFi hotspots, speeds of up to 3.6Mbit (depending on location) and an 18 month contract. The home package will come with a free pre-configured wireless router, 24/7 UK based customer support, unlimited downloads (subject to the standard 'fair usage policy') and it even waives the connection fee. Should you live in an area with poor home speeds then a £7.50pm discount will be awarded.

Now if this doesn't have you licking your lips (are you lacking lips?) a second package has also been created to appeal to Home only broadband customers. Dubbed 'O2 Home Broadband Takeaway' it will see customers buy a 'takeaway box' (above) which includes an 'O2 Wireless Box II' router, setup CD, quick start guide, power supply, DSL cable, a pair of broadband filters and an Ethernet cable - in short, everything you need to get going

Helpfully, the initial £30 cost of the box will be credited back to the customer's account as soon as they are online with the service.

Broadband Home and Away will be available to customers between 1 August and 31 October who live within the O2 Home Broadband network and existing Home and/or Mobile broadband subscribers are also eligible. Home Broadband Takeaway boxes will start appearing in stores from 4 August.

Yep, O2 means business...
