Vodafone was the first company to commercialise mobile broadband in the UK but it has never been the cheapest. Until now...

In a dramatic move, the telco has announced it will slash the price of its consumer and business entry level offerings by up to 50 per cent.

Consequently, Vodafone will offer consumers a 7.2Mbit service with a monthly 3GB data limit for just £15 per month (including VAT). The contract had been £30pm. It's 'Mobile Broadband 30 Day' package also gets the chop, dropping from £30 to £20 for a 3GB data allowance. As the name suggests, this deal also lets the contract be cancelled with just 30 days notice.

As for business customers, data allowances have been upped from the ubiquitous 3GB to a more generous 5GB while 24 month and 18 month contracts will garner six months and three months free rental respectively. Furthermore, the company's impressive Stick (above) and Pebble USB modems will be free on both 18 and 24 month deals.

Expect retaliatory strikes from O2, T-Mobile et al soon. It's brilliant when telcos fight...
