Exactly one week ago today I wrote that the first Draft N 2.0 compliant products would be available in June. I guess D-Link didn't read it...

Instead it has jumped the gun and announced the immediate availability of 2.0 product upgrades for its line of Wireless N kit. The upgrades take the form of both firmware and driver updates and means the range achieves "Connect with Intel Centrino" certification, ie: guaranteed compatibility and interoperability with Intel Next Gen Wireless N (as – mostly – seen in Santa Rosa).

Consequently owners of D-Link's Wireless N Gigabit Router (DIR-655), PCI Express Desktop Adapters (DWA-556 and DWA-547), Notebook ExpressCard (DWA-643) and Notebook Adapter (DWA-645) can pat themselves on the back and know any lingering doubts they had about their Draft N 1.0 gamble have now been dispelled.

"We're happy to be first to market with draft 802.11n products and to associate with Intel in delivering products and technologies that deliver on the promise of convergence in home networking communications," said AJ Wang (yes, really), D-Link's CTO.

Not to be hard on Wang (sorry, couldn't resist) but D-Link was always likely to sale through the Draft N 2.0 certification process since one of the key components of the latest revision is the requirement for 'Clear Channel Assessment' (CCA) something the company already went the extra yard to incorporate in its Draft N 1.0 devices.

Can anyone else match the lengths embodied by D-Link's Wang? Watch this space...
