Still not garnered the benefits from switching over to an unbundled ISP? Chances are you’ll now have the option...

Former BT subsidiary turned mobile and broadband rival O2 has announced that its wholly owned ISP – Be, formerly ‘Be Unlimited’ – (yes it is all rather incestuous) has now unbundled its 500th exchange to cover 33 per cent of UK households.

The news – which comes on the back of Be being nominated for ‘Best Consumer Broadband’ in the ISPA Awards – is significant because it means roughly one third of all UK residents now have access to ADSL2+ connections which offer speeds of up to 24Mbps, three times faster than anything currently offered by BT. Needless to say prices are far cheaper than BT too with packages starting from just £14 per month.

Furthermore Be has announced it plans to have unbundled over 800 exchanges by the end of the summer which will bring ADSL2+ availability to 50 per cent of the population. The rest will be covered via a wholesale deal it has struck with BT.

Faster, cheaper and more available... sounds like progress (and a Radiohead track) to me.
