Sky may have just spent millions marketing its ‘Sky by Broadband’ and ‘Sky by Mobile’ services but that hasn’t stopped Rupert re-jigging the whole thing.

From now on both services will be referred to by the umbrella name ‘Sky Anywhere’ as the broadcaster attempts to promote the ubiquity of its products.

The announcement has also been timed to coincide with launch of the new third series of Lost, which Sky controversially landed ahead of Channel 4 – the broadcaster of the first two seasons. Sky will be making all episodes of the hit show immediately available for download after they’re broadcast for £2.50. They feature the pre-requisite DRM but at least allow unlimited viewings from the computer they were downloaded to.

That said, I can’t promise repeat viewings will help anyone make more sense of the ‘Dharma Initiative’. I watched creator J J Abrams’ previous series ‘Alias’ only to finally give up midway through season 4 in exasperation at the way the ‘Rambaldi Prophesy’ dragged on and on, and on, and on… Other shows including the Long Way Round, Weeds (hemptastically good), Stargate and its spin off Atlantis will turn up too for £1.50.

In addition, Sky’s ‘Box Office’ service will be ported over to broadband with the broadcaster promising at least 30 recent flicks on offer at any one time. A £3.95 fee will be charged per movie and they’ll be viewable for seven days.

As for the rebranding of Sky by Mobile, well, if you’re lucky enough to have a handset that supports it and you’ve managed to go through the unprecedented rigmarole of setting it up (it’s great when running) then I’m sure a little homogeny will come in welcome.
