Back in August I brought you news of NTL’s decision to upgrade its customers to 10Mbps connections (or Ye shalt all have a band that tis broad and low it shalt skipity along at megabits of ten, as the voices in my head dictated I should phrase it at the time). Well, it’s here.

The strategy isn’t entirely based on raw speed either. Customers’ usage allowances will rise significantly to 75GB (from 30GB) per month and the company’s ‘Broadband plus’ package is now bundled free.

Broadband plus is the company’s own premium package of music, gaming, kids’ content and free photos. It used to cost 30 quid every month (ouch) but from today shall cost a far more reasonable nothing.

Security is upgraded too, via a PC security programme called Netguard. This offers anti-virus, pop up blocker, privacy manager and secure form filler technology in a single package and will protect up to three PCs from 140,000 different viruses. Automatic updates occur every three hours.

The best bit about this is it won’t cost anymore to existing 3Mbps customers. They will be automatically upgraded throughout December and from early next year prices will actually drop from £37.99 to £34.99 per month. 1Mb and 2Mb customers will have to up their packages to qualify (skinflints!).

Happy Festive Speed Boosting.
