Freedom2Surf launches 8Mbps Broadband, Promises 24Mbps

The UK broadband market is hotting up. Freedom2Surf has become the third company to offer 8Mbps after UKOnline and Bulldog. It has also declared its readiness for ADSL2+.

Dealing with the here and now first, the 8Mbps service is available immediately with packages starting from just £14.99 per month (though that comes with a tight monthly 2GB cap). Prices increase to £19.99 with a 10GB cap, but you’ll give yourself plenty of “freedom to surf” (!) if you sign up for the £24.99 option which has a gargantuan 100GB allowance.

A £49.99 activation fee is charged if you choose to work off a monthly contract, but this is wiped should you sign up for the full 12 months. Existing Freedom2Surf customers can upgrade to 8Mbps for a one-off fee of £15. The service is initially available on 14 exchanges in the major metropolitan areas and will increase to over 200 from the end of July.

As for the 24Mbps promised by the upcoming ADSL2+ technology, Freedom2Surf has got itself in position to offer it from the get go (around Q4 2005). No mean feat, Now Let’s Have It!
