Once I left VeriSign the quality of the news dropped off (it had nothing to do with the Grolsch).

I showed up at 3Com, HP (above), Sharp, Juniper, Siemens, Sphinx and ZyXEL but they were all just banging on about the dangers of SpyWare, recommending one red box or yellow box solution or another and speaking in generalities. Consequently, we come to the fun part of the report: the Irreverent Awards.

Best Prop has to go to the use of a Double Decker Bus by CyberGuard (the closest I could get to an explanation seemed to be a reference to Jose Mourinho’s weird Portuguese phrase about parking a bus in front of something to defend it and the CyberGuard bus was here to… blah, blah – you get the point).

Best Game-For-A-Laugh PR Bunnies went to this cheeky foursome. (I promised them it would go up… Hi Girls!)

An important one: Best Pens - goes to C & C Technology who won by a country mile with this classy extendable offering.

Creepiest: easily the RSA sponge brain.

Most Obvious Giveaway: BitDefender with its branded prophylactics which are software and hardware “protectors” you see… (sigh). And the priceless line from its packaging:

“You may install and use one BitDefender Prophylactic once, the licence expires when use of the product is discontinued (i.e. the product is removed from the terminal on which it has been installed).” Priceless.

For those of you with a hankering for security (you know you love it), InfoSec 2005 will run one more day – Thursday 27 April – but closes antisocially early at 4pm.
