Orange France, the French telecommunications company, has announced that it has chosen Option’s GlobeTrotter Fusion 3G data card to provide a high-speed wireless broadband solution to the corporate market. The Option “Fusion” product will be marketed and sold under the Orange brand.

As well as UMTS data speeds of up to 384Kpbs, the card will support GPRS for when 3G isn’t available and will also integrate a wireless 54G LAN connection. While most new notebooks offer integrated Wi-Fi, it will be useful for older machines that don’t feature it.

The Fusion card is equipped with in-built EAP-SIM and Smart Card (PCSC) technologies enabling automatic authentication to corporate WLAN and public Wi-Fi services as well as making the operator provided SIM transparently available to third party applications that require authentication for security or e-commerce transactions.

Option is the company that makes Vodafone’s 3G data card, which in our tests performed far better than the Novatel 3G card that Orange is currently offering in the UK. As Orange is a French company it is likely that the UK arm will switch over to the Option Fusion card at some point.
