While the primary role of an iPod dock would seem to be for music that hasn't stopped iHome coming up with something rather different...

The 'iH41' - which has been knocking around in concept and pre-production versions for sometime - has finally got an official launch and it is quite simply an iPod dock with a twist: Unlike the flood of products in this sector, the iH45 can be swivelled so that an iPod can be seen in both vertical and horizontal alignment - a feature particularly useful for watching video on the iPod touch.

Like other iHome products, the iH45 should also deliver strong acoustics with the company's EXB Expanded Bass and Reson8 speaker technology while it incorporates a large digital clock, alarm and snooze bar. iPods are charged over the connection too while other makes of player aren't excluded via the auxiliary-in port. A remote control is bundled as well.

One note of caution: no iPhone or iPhone 3G support is listed so expect feedback from the former and be particularly careful is you own the latter given its flaky peripheral compatibility.

That said, for those sitting on the fence the extremely reasonable $79.99 RRP is likely to push you off it and while some may question the logic in using such a device at home those regularly on their travels (dare I whisper "Caravan Owners" *shudder*) will certainly see the appeal...
