While there are many knockers of Apple, even the cynics must admit: once Cupertino debuts new hardware invariably the rest of the world does its best to imitate.

Doing a far better job than most however is Onda which has announced a striking iPod touch rival which makes a far better job of taking on the current MP3 flagship than virtually anyone to date.

Starting things off, the 'VX767' actually offers a larger 4.3in widescreen display with true 16:9 aspect ratio and 480 x 272 native resolution. Backing this up is wide codec support with 3GP, ASF, AVI, FLV, MOV, MPG, MP4, RM, RMVB and WMV meaning you'll virtually never need to re-encode media ever again while FLAC, MP3, WAV and WMA audio support is in there too. JPG, BMP, GIF and PNG picture formats are present for good measure.

Oddly Onda doesn't specify the internal memory in the VX767, but you will find an FM tuner with 40+ presets, a microSDHC expansion slot, mic, TV output and Reader with automatic bookmarking. Battery life is impressive too with Onda claiming more than 40 hours continuous music playback while video is said to last a superb 10 hours.

No word on availability or pricing, but we're already down on our knees praying for good news on both...
