Anyone remember that wonderful iPhone fanboy art I published back in September 2005? Probably not, but Thomson does...

Consequently it has come up with uncannily similar styling for its 'V888', the first PMP I have ever seen to feature a mobile phone-esque slider design, let alone one that sports proper gaming controls.

As a result, not only can the V888 do all the usual audio and video tomfoolery courtesy of its Mpeg1/2/4, DivX, MP3, WMA, ASF, DAT, MOV, VOB, H.263, MP3, WMA, WAV, Jpeg, Bmp, Png, Tiff, and Gif support(!), but it can also support the SFC, FC, MD 'Severance game simulator' (something I've, quite frankly, never heard of). Furthermore, the V888 has a large 4in LCD, TV output, a built in mic for voice recording and an SD expansion slot.

This last feature will probably be needed however since the V888 only comes with 2GB of onboard storage, though at 116 x 73 x 22mm I've seen much heftier PMPs for the features.

The V888 will initially debut in Japan in the next month and – if like Meizu's MiniPlayer – it can gain a cult following, expect a wider international release in the future.
