The iTunes/iPod compatibility problems in Windows Vista have been one of the OS's highest profile issues since launch back at the end of January. Well, now Microsoft has one less publicity problem...

It (not Apple, interestingly) has released the last of a series of patches for both 32bit and 64bit editions of the beautified OS which tackles the final widely reported user problem: that iPods can be corrupted if they are ejected via the Vista system tray's "Safely Remove Hardware" option (rather ironic really).

This problem first came to light back in March with the release of (unofficially) Vista friendly-ish iTunes v7.1.

Strangely, as far as I am aware, Apple maintains that iTunes will still not run on the 64bit edition of Windows Vista. So how Microsoft is releasing a patch to fix a specific problem on an OS which apparently can't even boot the software is quite beyond me. Compatibility mode perhaps? 64bit Vista users out there, let me know...
