Denon is associated with virtually everything audio related – except earphones, but that is set to change. Late last week the company announced the 'AH-C700', the company's first entry into this space in nearly 10 years.


In typical Denon style, the hype behind the earphones is finely tuned stating that "The same engineers who design Denon's £5,000 CD players have worked on the AH-C700, refining them over and over again until they were happy with the sound and the fit".

What this equates to is a list of features as long as your arm including machined aluminium housings to eliminate resonance, 11mm diaphragm drive units, neodymium iron magnets, pure-OFC (Oxgen Free Copper) conductors, isolation plugs, a gold plated aluminium bodied 3.5mm jack and Denon's 'Acoustic Optimiser' (whatever secrets this may entail).

The earphones have a 1.2m cable length and are available in either black or silver. The C700's retail price has been set at £139 and while we'll have to put them through their paces before giving a thumbs up, I can guarantee you they will thrash that Christmas Cracker garbage Apple supplies – and most people bewilderingly continue to use – with their iPods...
