Bluetooth is becoming as common as CDs on car stereos these days and Sony's latest shows just why...

The 'MEX-BT2500' is a stereo unit which not only syncs with your mobile phone, but also any A2DP enabled multimedia player meaning the device's third trick - its CD slot – is unlikely to come in for much use.

Simply pair your devices with the MEX-BT2500 and calls/audio are transferred to the car's speakers once you turn the ignition, a built in microphone means there's no need for additional wiring while A2DP provides fantastic stereo audio reception.

As for that unused CD slot, for what it's worth, it is equipped with shock damper technology to avoid skips caused by uneven road surfaces. Sony also promotes the 'zero visibility' security benefit of Bluetooth which – stripped of its marketing speak – means the lack of wires/cradles/mounting suckers on show give no evidence to potential thieves that precious electronics have been used in conjunction with your stereo and may be stored in the car.

For my money the only downside to any of this is – in comparison with an Alpine wired iPod head unit – the BT2500 cannot charge your player while it is in use.

That said, if you're on top of your battery battles, you could do worse than check out the BT2500 when it arrives later this month.
