If you want an official ‘Made for iPod’ car stereo then your choice is pretty much limited to Alpine, Alpine and well... Alpine. No one will mind however if the company keeps churning out improvements like this...

The ‘Full Speed Connection’ for iPod feature is the latest enhancement to an award winning line of new head units and it enables users to control their iPods through their stereos with faster data transmission than ever before.

To be honest, this is a welcome feature since the one criticism I have of previous Alpine iPod generations is the significant lag when scrolling through artists/albums/songs. In fact, as a general rule I found it easier to simply select the music I want on the iPod itself before I plug it into the unit. Full Speed Connection should minimise this while the best feature of the 2007 head unit line up will eradicate it completely.

Called ‘Percentage Search’ it divides a users’ entire music library into six percentage groupings then, using the head unit’s six preset buttons, users can browse by pushing one of the presets to quickly jump to the desired section of the playlist, album, artist or song list instead of having to scroll through file by file.

All four new Alpine 2007 Made for iPod models – the CDE-9881R (4 x 50W), 9873RB, 9871R and 9870R (each 4 x 45W) – will offer this killer additional functionality and prices start from just £129.99. For existing Alpine iPod stereo owners the Full Speed Connection cable (code: KCE-422i) can be purchased separately for £19.99.

It’s time to annoy fellow motorists...
