It seems there are still a few technology sectors which don’t commonly embrace Bluetooth technology but Parrot is clearly desperate to change that.

It’s latest assault on the world of wired equipment sees it tackle the swamped market of MP3 player external speakers. Called the ‘BOOMBOX’ it may remind you of a certain Apple product that Parrot couldn’t possibly be referencing when it speaks of bringing “Hi-Fi sound” to our portable devices.

The 2.1 unit looks a lot better than Apple’s board rubber approach too with a thick wooden cabinet lacquered in black and polished for a semi-matt finish. It isn’t bad on the inside either with support for any Bluetooth Stereo 2.0 mobile device while offering EDR, AD2P and AVRCP support. Meanwhile non-Bluetooth devices can be connected via an RCA auxiliary line.

In raw power terms the Boombox (I categorically refuse to recreate caps lock product names) churns out a cracking 60W which should be more than sufficient to annoy neighbours both on the same side and opposite side of the street. Should they come around determined to kill you then it can be easily hidden away since it measures a compact 430 x 225 x 150mm and weighs a back friendly 5.6Kg.

The Boombox goes on sale in Q2 with an RRP of £150 and should you buy one don’t move next to me.
