When the Zune launched last month to a torrent of apathy an interesting fact emerged: it wasn’t even compatible with Vista! Well three weeks after the corporate launch of Microsoft’s latest operating system that major omission has finally been plugged.

Version 1.2 of the device’s software is now available via Zune, net and for all those suits with a more funky side to them it will come as a great relief.

The 22MB download also fixes a number of bugs from previous versions and claims to provide a less traumatic installation process than the infamous bundled CD. Despite the newly extended OS compatibility minimum requirements remain unchanged with a 500MHz CPU, 256MB RAM, 200MB of hard disk space, a 32MB video card and Internet access needed.

With the Zune still unavailable in the UK (and looking to be so for some time) we’re forced to go off US reports and with many sites stating that v1.2 is little improved from v1.0 it is perhaps best we get the chance to wait for a more finished product next year. Best, that is, if you can stand all the excitement…!?!
