You just can’t stop Logitech at the moment. This month it has unleashed a deluge of VoIP products, made a far more creditable iPod Hi-Fi alternative than the boxy accessory Apple created and redesigned the mouse. August isn’t over yet either…

The ‘Z-10 Interactive 2.0 Speaker System’ (again a wonderfully literal title) could probably be described as the world’s first smart speakers… or ‘SmartSpeakers’ (GK trademarked!) since we’re in the Computer World here. They earn this accolade because, far from simply delivering sound, they show track information, a clock, volume levels and have built in player controls.

It is also worth mentioning that stylistically the speakers take heavy cues from LG’s popular Chocolate handset by adding in touch sensitive controls. I have never been a fan of this system on a mobile phone (for reasons Sandra has already outlined here and here), but on a set of speakers they make far more sense. At just 265 x 114 x 119mm the Z-10’s don’t take up a lot of space either and with integrated 25mm tweeters and 76mm woofers on each satellite they should be plenty powerful enough for a study or medium sized living room.

At £99.99 you’re certainly shelling out extra to be top of the fashion tree but if you can afford the initial outlay they could be well worth the additional expense. Bragging rights also come included.
