It can’t be long now, we getting into the fine detail…

No longer is the debate about whether the new iPods are imminent (they are), what their capacities will be (8GB seems to be settled on) or even their feature sets (little change, maybe video playback) but their outer casings.

According to just about every ‘insider’ Apple website out there word is the new nanos will be taking a step back in mini territory and debuting with similar aluminium hardwearing finishes and colour ranges. Is your friendly, sarcastic, egotistical News Ed convinced? Not entirely…

Certainly – if true – this approach would solve the near-endless lawsuits Apple has faced since the nano first launched in September, but at the same time it would represent an embarrassing climb down and completely abandon the company’s recent policy of colour matching and finish matching its iPods and Macs.

Looks like we’re about to see who has the power in this world: the corporations or the public. I feel a bout of my infamous John Lennon caterwauling coming on. All together now:
