Apple Fights For $9.99 iTunes Movie Downloads

Jobsy is at is again. After driving record companies crazy by insisting on 99 cents audio track downloads he is now pressurising the movie industry to provide films for $9.99.

Being the greedy sleazy soulless financially motivated bunch they are studios are giving Apple a hard time over this insisting prices should reflect those demanded for retail DVDs which is nuts for all too obvious reasons.

Consequently, it is expected that once again Jobs and his motley crew will get their way which – evil DRM aside – is good news for consumers. In fact, even not putting DRM to one side the move still makes us happy in all the right places because it would set a precedent the rest of the market would have to follow.

Naturally enough the Feline Obsessed White Fetishist has declined to respond to these reports as have the vast majority of Hollywood’s major studios. Despite this Apple knows it has to ink deals sooner rather than later or risk its iTunes virtual store falling behind the likes of BitTorrent who recently penned a similar agreement with Warner Bros.

Still what baffles me (*feigns innocence*) is why oh why oh why oh why would Apple suddenly be pushing so hard for movie downloads when the video capabilities of its current generation iPods are repeatedly described as being for music videos and short multimedia files? Obviously it couldn’t be anything to do with the limited edition/shove-old-stock-out-the-door U2 model introduced a couple of weeks back could it? Or perhaps the fact that Terry Gou blabbed to the world that a new iPod is coming?!

So let’s officially start the bets. New iPods: two months...?
Do I hear any advance on two months…?
One month.
Three weeks?
That’s three weeks to the excited Har Even at the back.
