Like many of life’s greatest pleasures the iTrip is illegal (in the UK anyway). Law dictates that even sending a small FM transmission signal to your car or living room stereo is tantamount to being a pirate radio station. How any government agency tunes into your tiny 10 foot broadcast to prosecute you on the other hand is a little less clear? Essentially it’s one of those daft little rules like the one which lets you shoot a Welshman with a bow and arrow as long as it is inside the city walls and after midnight.

Anyway, back to the heinous crime that is the iTrip. As you can see its nano incarnation is the most stunning to date and its svelte lines have certainly come a long way from the version Benny reviewed for a 3G iPod way back in November 2003. The technology behind it isn’t bad either as frequencies can be selected directly from the nano’s screen, while “SmartSound” dynamically adjusts the volume level to maintain optimal audio quality.

Users can also toggle between mono and stereo modes and the iTrip stores the last three used station presets. In addition, it is now a truly international device supporting the tuning modes of Europe, the US and Japan. If you want to buy one (you Low Down Dirty Fiend you) they are easily available on the web and come with a retail price of $50. Only hardened criminals need apply.

In the meantime I hope our Bush loving government is being equally strict cracking down on all the other terrible crimes we all commit, such as:

  • It is illegal to be a drunk in possession of a cow.
  • It is illegal for a Member of Parliament to enter the House of Commons wearing a full suit of armour.
  • It is illegal for a lady to eat chocolates on a public conveyance.
  • It is illegal to impersonate a Chelsea Pensioner.
  • It is illegal to be drunk on Licensed Premises (aka a pub or bar). Yeah right...
