Radio’s great, it’s like TV without the annoying bits and it makes you remember to choose your music by how it sounds rather than what music video goes with it. Trouble is it has never been as easy to record stuff off it as the all conquering idiot box, but that’s about to change.

The DAB EPG radio from Morphy Richards is set to do for radio what Sky+ in the UK and Tivo in the US has done for the goggle box namely: make it work to your schedules and not the other way round. It does this by building in a blue backlit LCD and electronic programme guide (that’s the EPG part) which allows users to view station schedules and set them to record.

Shows are stored to SD media (a 64MB card is included) and given that capacities of up to 4GB are shipping that’s a lot of space for ear candy. The other great feature of using storage technology is that time shifting becomes an option, letting live broadcasts be paused and rewound up to 10 minutes. In addition – since it is DAB – the sound quality should be excellent, while an optical output (SPDIF) means it can be made part of larger speaker setup.

The Morphy Richards DAB EPG radio goes on sale immediately for £169.99 (incl. VAT) and you’d be an extremely long way from the most stupid man on earth if you decide to pick one up.
