What's Zen A Name?

Cassius Clay, Reginald Kenneth Dwight, Arnold George Dorsey and Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou all benefited from a name change. Creative hopes this will work for it too, which is why it is slowly consolidating its existing range of players under a more consumable name.

The latest player to make the switch to its heavily promoted Zen brand is the popular little MuVo Micro N200. From now on it will known as the Zen Nano Plus, a title infinitely more memorable and which – sneakily – also suggests it has been upgraded (which, in fact, it hasn’t).

What has happened, however, is old MuVo Micro N200 has received a new lick of paint (make that 10 licks). My incredible knowledge of colour hues and tints enables me to describe these as purple, silver, yellow, orange, red, pink, white, black, light blue and greeny-blue.

Beyond this the same tricks remain: a range of sizes from 128MB to 1GB, dimensions of 33.5 x 65.5 x 13mm with a dinky weight of just 34g, 18 hours from a single AAA battery, a built in FM radio and mic and direct MP3 encoding via line-in.

Prices for the rebranded MuVos have yet to be confirmed, but I would expect a little drop is in order when the Zen Nano Plus’es/’s/i debut in the next few weeks. So, more flash memory players on the market… is there such as thing as too much choice?
