We like PodGear, it’s a company with a good sense of humour after it let us put many dubious words in the mouth of its head honcho as part of our devious April Fool’s fun. It also makes some pretty good iPod accessories, including a case we reviewed earlier this month that still has Riyad in raptures. Now it’s gone and covered the Shuffle.

Dubbed the JumpSuit Shuffles (sounds like an acid jazz band), these 70s influenced, Flower Power esque cases are designed to protect the notoriously scratch prone surface of Apple’s baby from everyday wear and tear. To achieve this, each JumpSuit (I like it more every time I say it) is made from super thin silicon which wraps around a Shuffle tighter than spandex to a sweat prone Elvis impersonator. Embossed function keys on the JumpSuits align with the Shuffle’s controls allowing it to be operated through the casing.

Good sport Tom Dudderidge, the aforementioned company’s big cheese, pointed out to us that the inspiration for the case came because the only way to keep Shuffles scratch free is to do what Apple wants and hang it around your neck. Like Tom, I’m not a big fan of having my headphone wire jut out from what consequently looks like a sports teacher’s overgrown whistle. Switching it to the pocket causes marks, hence the JumpSuits.

Surprisingly, PodGear packs these cases in packs of two so they are obviously positioning them as a hot swappable fashion statement in their own right. The combos available are the classic black and white (my personal favourites – so they're pictured above), pastel pink and yellow, brown and blue and finally white and shocking pink (last one’s a girlie pack methinks).

Those disappointed that the JumpSuits aren’t sold separately won’t be when they discover the price for a pair is just £9.99 including VAT. Check em out at PodGear’s online store ipodworld, where they are on sale now. Groovy Baby!
