iRiver has unveiled a 5GB capacity pocket jukebox that ought to give Apple’s iPod mini and Creative's Zen Micro a run for their money. The H10 has 1GB more capacity than the iPod mini and, unlike its two main rivals, boasts a colour screen. A slide-show function enables users to show off their holiday snaps.

Audio formats supported are MP3, WMA and ASF, while JPEGs and text files can be displayed. The H10 also includes a FM tuner with 20 station presets and can record programs to MP3. When connected up to a PC tracks can also be converted from CD directly by the H10 using direct MP3 encoding. Additionally there’s a built-in microphone offering up to 45 hours of voice recording. Signal to noise ratio is a decent 90dB, so sound quality should be up to iRiver’s normal high standards.

Navigation is similar to the Zen Micro using a vertical touchpad control. The H10 is weighs only 96 grams and measures 95 x 54 x 15 mm. It’s available is four colours, - light silver, piedmont red, night-sky blue and anthracite. Battery-life is a claimed 12 hours besting the iPod mini’s eight hours and matching the Zen Micro, which is impressive considering the colour screen.

The iRiver H10 has a recommended retail prices of £199 including VAT and will be in the shops in mid-January 2005.
