Sony today announced the launch of the Sony NW-HD3, a new hard disk based network walkman. We reviewed the NW-HD1, here and our issue with it was its lack of native MP3 support. The supplied SonicStage software made you go through the cumbersome process of converting files to ATRAC3. Now Sony has succumbed with the release of SonicStage 2.3, allowing you to transfer over your existing files without conversion.

Many were expecting Sony to simply release a firmware update to add MP3 support as it did with the solid state NW-E55 and NW-E75 players. The company has taken the oppurtuntiy to update the styling of the NW-HD3.

Other than that the NW-HD3 is essentially the same as the NW-HD1 with a 20GB capacity and a claimed 30 hours of battery life. The NW-HD3 will be available in December 2004.
