Aigo, purveyors of all things small and MP3-like, has added another device to its growing range. At £170, the Aigo P770 does seem rather expensive for a 256MB player, but it does do a whole bunch of things that, say, the iPod mini can’t.

For a start it’s solid state so it won’t ever skip. It’s got a 160 x 128 resolution colour screen for browsing images, and it also includes a bunch of games such as Russia Block, Box Game, Bogan, and Black and White Chess. You can also view ebooks on the colour display.

The P770 can record from external sources and can also record audio from its built-in FM radio, which offers presets for 20 stations.

Other features include A-B playback, useful for picking up those difficult phrases if your learning a language, and a Lithium Polymer battery, which should power the device for around 15 hours. the P770 connects over USB and can be used as a general storage device.

As well as the 256Mb player a 512MB version is available for £199. The 256Mb player though is available now from www.microdirect.co.uk.
