AVerMedia Preps ExpressCard Product

AVerMedia has scored a first by announcing the first TV Tuner based on the new PC Express standard as revealed at the Intel Developer Forum last September. In fact it’s the first actual ExpressCard product we’ve come across of any kind. Formerly know as 'NewCard', ExpressCard is essentially the replacement for the existing PC Card standard. The new shape card promises faster performance than PCI as it is based on PCI Express. The cards also promise smaller and sleeker notebooks as the cards are approximately half the size of current PC Cards. They are available in three sizes, the smallest being 75 mm long and only 34 mm wide and referred to as ExpressCard 34.

However, The AverTV Tuner uses the larger ExpressCard 54, measuring 75 mm x 54 mm size with a corner section missing.

Systems integrating the ExpressCard slot have yet to appear, so there’s inevitably no word yet on pricing but availability is likely to be at the start of Q1 2005.
