Board manufacturer Sapphire has become the first manufacturer to announce a product based on ATI’s recently introduced Theater 550 Pro multimedia chip.

The Sapphire TheatriX is a PCI TV Tuner card that thanks to the Theater 550 Pro boasts full hardware MPEG2 video encoding with a 3D comb filter to reduce picture noise. It also offers an MPEG Audio Encoder with sample rates of up to 48Khz and two-channel Dolby Digital encoding.

Radio fans will also appreciate that the TheatriX boasts an FM tuner as well, so users can listen to the radio as well as watch TV. As well as the TV tuner, which is capable of picking up analogue TV signals, the TheatriX features S-Video and composite inputs do you can capture from other sources such as an analogue camcorder or an external set-top box.

To give that genuine TV experience the package includes a Universal Remote Control. The software bundle includes Cyberlink PowerCinem3, which takes care of multiple duties such as watching TV, watching DVDs, listening to the radio, and even making DVDs.

According to Sapphire's PR company, the TheatriX is expected to cost around £57 including VAT.
