AverMedia has announced a new way of watching and recording TV on your laptop. The AverTV CardBus is a TV Tuner built into a PC Card. However, you’ll still need to connect an antenna if you want to get reception.

The CardBus is an analogue TV Tuner and can record TV in MPEG 2 or 4 formats. However the specifications at the AverMedia web site that the DivX codec needs to be installed before it can record to MPEG 4 – implying that it in fact records to DivX rather than standard MPEG4. You can also do the now common trick of being able to pause live TV, and resume when you’re ready.



The software so you to take still images in JPG, or BMP format, and offers a 16 channel preview, as well as picking up teletext.

Hardware requirements are listed as a machine with a PC Card slot and a minimum of a 1GHz processor. However, a 1.5GHz Pentium 4 is recommended for recording to MPEG2.

The AverTV CardBus is available now from www.mediaatlantic.com or www.maplin.co.uk for an RRP of £56 including VAT.
