I realise it's a personal thing, but I find the canal phones from Sony to be rather special. Plenty of clarity, nice imaging, and deep controlled base. I'm presently using 'Sony X-Bass MDR-XB40EX' which can be found for about £40. Being canal phones they offer a degree of isolation from the outside world, so you don't need to turn your tunes up so loud. Saving your hearing, so you can enjoy your tunes into old age too. (Yes, I intend to be an old grumpy bugger, still listening to trance & base).

Thanks, but please can we have a review for the half of britain that commutes into work and doesn't want to upset fellow passengers?
My spec <£100, minimal leakage and something more robust than tissue paper.
