Time to cuddle my Sony the last great product they made, they require NO power source if you have none.

@Hank
There are plenty of speakers that require no power source, just don't expect much volume from them.
I ordered a X-Mini II soon after reading the review, at £20 on Amazon, it's worth the punt.

When you plug one X-Mini II into another, do they become two mono spekers playing the same combined channel, or doe the first play the left and port the right to the second speaker? Sort of how the "sound bug" turn-any-window-into-an-NXT-speaker worked?

Hi
How much better does the X-Mini II sound than typical laptop / netbook speakers? I'm thinking of getting one for use in the garden with my Acer One and Spotify, and this sounds ideal.

The X-Mini II is better than most laptop speakers and netbook speakers, so I think you'd be quite happy. As I tried to make clear in the review, I wouldn't want to make too many claims about awesome sound quality - most dedicated sound docks or powered speaker sets will outperform it - but when you take into account the size and the price, the output is pretty impressive. Bizarrely, I have several high-quality sets of desktop speakers and a very good iPod speaker dock lurking in my office, but I've been lazily using the X-Mini II over the last five or six days. It's very handy for basic, background listening.

How do these compare to the Altec Lansing Orbit?

@ChaosDefinesOrder
Have a look at the reviews on Amazon. People are using two of these with a splitter cable to achieve stereo sound. I assume, therefore, that they're not stereo out of the box.

thanks for this. i have the original x-mini and the sound is really quite decent for the money you spend. preferred the design of the old one though, i have the red one (http://sputnik00.wordpress.com/2008/07/08/x-mini-review/) and can't stop looking at it.
