If there are two things that most of us at TrustedReviews agree on, one is that you're wasting your time with 95% of the earphones bundled with MP3 or personal media players, and the second is that - within reason - you should spend as much on some replacements as you can afford. Of course, that means different things to different people, and while some of us don't have any problem justifying a £60 to £120 outlay on a new set of earbuds, we're aware that a lot of people don't feel the same way.

Fair enough. A lot of people will be getting new MP3 players and PMPs this Christmas, and we'd like them all to get the best from their new toys, throw away the bundled monstrosities and invest in something that makes the most of their potential. As a result, we've asked around for a few recommendations for some more reasonably priced replacements, and rounded up the Denon AH-C252, Ultimate Ears Metro.Fi 2 and Sony MDR-EX300SL earphones. If you want ultimate quality or true noise isolation you'll have to pay a little more, but if you just want good sound everywhere you go, these three offer it without any vast expense.

So Shure's SE102 still wins the field, eh?

It's either upgrading to the SE102 or staying with my Creative EP-630.
